Max Swafford, 83, of Decatur, GA passed away Thursday August 23, 2018 at Atlanta Hospice Center following a short battle with cancer.
Born August 9, 1935 in Dawson County to the late Carl and Mae Swafford, he had lived in Decatur for the past five years. Max retired as a commercial truck driver. He loved and enjoyed NASCAR, country music, playing his guitar and the Atlanta Braves. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Gail Wilson Swafford; sisters, Cleo Bruce and Lois Chumley.
Surviving are his daughters and sons in law, Angie and Jon Blackwelder, Decatur, Carmen Park, Idyllwild, CA, Connie and Tony Arp, Dawsonville, Renee Darby, Dawsonville; sister Eunice Chumbley, Dawsonville; brother and sister in law, Glenson and Arlene Swafford, Kennesaw; his ex-wife, Maxine Cochran; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.
Memorial services will be held Friday, August 31, 2018 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Owens will officiate.
The family will receive friends on Friday August 31 from 1 until 2.
