Mildred Smothers Lindsey, age 95 of Hoschton, GA died Sunday, August 19, 2018 after an extended illness. Funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. The family will receive friends Tuesday, August 21, 2018 from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA. Mildred Marjory Smothers Lindsey of Hoschton, GA is preceded in death by her husband John Howard Lindsey; her children David Lindsey, Patricia Lindsey Steadman Chorba, and Phillip Edward Lindsey; her grandson Roy Matthew Steadman; her parents R.D. Smothers and Lonnie Peck Smothers and her stepfather William Ezra Croley; her brothers Ray, “Bill”, and Ralph Smothers and William Croley Jr; and her sisters Hazel Smothers Brewer, Ernestine and Thelma Smothers. She is survived by her brother James Croley of Paducah, Kentucky; her children, Janice Ann Lindsey Dikin Piggott of Symsonia, Kentucky, John Howard Lindsey, Jr. of Safety Harbor, Florida, Elizabeth Lindsey Hausman of Pewee Valley, Kentucky, Stephen Scott Lindsey of Dacula, Georgia, Anna Sue Lindsey of Nashville, Tennessee, and Sarah Lee Lindsey Camper of Hoschton, Georgia; 17 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews and their families. Born November 11, 1922 in Benton, Marshall County, Kentucky, she and John married on July 24, 1940, and began their family. They trained for the ministry in Michigan, founded a church there, then returned to Kentucky and founded a church in their hometown. After retiring to Florida and living on the beach for several years, they moved to Georgia to live near their children.
