Jackie Wright Dorminy

Mrs. Jackie Wright Dorminy, age 84 of Gainesville, passed away on August 14, 2018.

A private graveside service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Sherwood Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Jonesboro, Georgia.

Jackie was born on October 22, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late George Washington Wright and the late Vera Dunn Wright. Growing up, Jackie loved to sing with her sister, Jean. They once sang on the Mickey Mouse radio show. Jackie graduated from Ensley High School in Birmingham, Alabama.

Jackie was introduced to her future husband, Ed, by her sister Jean, who was married to Ed’s uncle. Ed was in the Air Force, and after Jackie and Ed got married in Birmingham, they moved to Eglin Air Force Base in Florida with $25.00 to their name in Jackie’s pocketbook, which was lost for a short time during the trip.

After the Air Force days, Jackie and Ed moved to Forest Park, Georgia and bought a house. Jackie worked for Retail Credit in downtown Atlanta in between having 2 baby girls. A few years later, Jackie got a job with Delta Airlines as a receptionist, shortly after the family moved to East Point, Georgia. Over her 35 year span with Delta, she held many positions working her way up to Executive Secretary to the VP of Purchasing. While working for Delta, Jackie and Ed were blessed with a son.

Jackie spent her golden years in retirement traveling around with Ed as he worked his many retirement jobs. She was a member of Lanier Christian Church in Gainesville. She also had a feisty side, which only came out when defending her family. She loved the lord, and from her came the faith and strong family values that her family will carry on. She will be missed by all her knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years Ed Dorminy, Jr.; her parents George and Vera Wright; daughter Pam Dorminy; sister Jean Wright Brock; and brother Phil Wright.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Tim Bynum; son Ed Dorminy III; grandsons Rexon and Kenny Bynum; granddaughter-in-law Kathy Bynum; granddaughter Bonnie Bynum Graham; grandson-in-law Adam Graham; granddaughters Grace, Caroline and Mary Dorminy; great-granddaughters Ashley and Haley Bynum; great granddaughter Hattie Graham.
