Corporal Terrell J. Fuller:   Hometown Hero-Toccoa, Georgia

United States Army Corporal Terrell J. Fuller, reported missing in South Korea on February 12, 1951, and later presumed captured and killed in 1954, was identified in April of 2018 through the work of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, and will be retuned and laid to rest in his home town of Toccoa, Ga. after Missing in Action for sixty-seven years.

The son of Marshall and Velzonia Harvey Fuller, Corporal Fuller was born August 11, 1930 in Habersham County, Georgia having lived in Stephens County for several years. He was of the Baptist faith and enlisted in The United States Army at the age of twenty-one.

United States Army Corporal Fuller was a member of Company D, 1st Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, and 2nd Infantry Division. In 1951, his division was supporting attacks by the Republic of Korea against units of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Forces AKA CPVF in the Central Corridor in South Korea. After countless enemy attacks the U.S. Forces on the ground in the Central Corridor withdrew forces to Wonju, South Korea. Shortly after arriving in Wonju, CPL. Fuller was reported missing in Action on February 12, 1951. Corporal Fuller was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United States Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. His name is permanently inscribed in the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. A rosette will be placed next to his name to indicate that he has been accounted for.

The family, which includes his niece, Brenda Ramsey of Toccoa, great nieces, Amy Ramsey Hix of Toccoa and Sandra and Chris Allen of Lavonia, Ga., great nephews, Kevin Ramsey of Banks County, Ga. and David Jaynes of Toccoa, were notified by the DPAA on April 24, 2018 that CPL. Fullers remains were identified. The family was of course surprised to hear this news after sixty seven years and was also relieved that his remains would finally be laid to rest on his native soil. His great niece, Amy Hix, was quoted, “Even after sixty-seven years of his missing, it is nice to know that our country is still bringing our soldiers home to their families”.

Corporal Fuller is being flown from Honolulu and will arrive at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on August 9th. He will be honored with a plane side service rendered by the United States Army National Guard Honor Guard. After taken into the care of Acree-Davis Funeral Home, he and the family will be escorted from the airport to Toccoa, Ga. by the Patriot Guard Riders and by several law enforcement departments and agencies. His great-great nephew, Will Grafton, currently serving on active duty in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Stewart, will serve as a special escort. The processional will take 85N to 365N, then the Toccoa Bypass to Hwy. 123, and proceeding into Toccoa. From there the procession will make a pass through historic downtown Toccoa by taking a left on Broad Street, a right on Doyle Street, and a right on Pond Street, ending at Acree-Davis Funeral Home at 90 South Pond Street. Volunteers have organized a patriotic homecoming and encourage the public to line the route in order to pay their respects for Corporal Fuller’s ultimate sacrifice to our country and the freedom for which it stands.

The family will have a Public visitation Friday, August 10th, 2018 at The Acree-Davis Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

A Private Service will be held Saturday, August 11th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. from the graveside at Stephens Memorial Gardens, 3650 Highway 17, Toccoa, Ga. The Reverend Jerrell Beatty is in charge of the service. Corporal Fuller will be laid to rest on what would have been his 88th birthday.
