Mr. Curtis Lynn Smith, age 74, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018.
Mr. Smith was born in Griffin, GA on September 2, 1943 to the late George Washington and Evelyn Reid Smith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son Steve Smith and his sister Mildred Reynolds. Mr. Smith served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He was an officer with the Georgia State Patrol, and a personal guard for the Carter family during the presidency of Jimmy Carter. Mr. Smith was trusted to serve as a bodyguard for the Japanese Consulate. He owned and operated a private investigation firm for many years. With a full and adventurous career, Mr. Smith slowed down and was an independent insurance agent until he retired.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Lois Smith; daughter Whitney Smith; sons Scott Smith and Michael Smith; grandchildren Timothy Jacob Smith, Cheyenne Smith and Danielle Smith; sister Betty Vidos; and several other relatives.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Saturday, July 28, 2018 in the Chapel of Banister Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Merritt will officiate. Interment will follow in Salem Baptist Church with military honors. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
