Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Dover Dewitt Gooch, age 95, of Jefferson, who passed away on Friday, July 20, 2018. Mr. Gooch was born in Shelby, North Carolina, a son to the late Carl Spurgen Gooch and the late Estelle Hogan Gooch. Mr. Gooch was a Farmer and a Bus Driver for Jefferson City Schools and Jackson County Schools for over forty years. He was a member of the White Plains Baptist Church in Jefferson, where he organized the placement of American Flags in the cemetery on Veterans Day. Mr. Gooch was a charter board member of the Jackson Trail Fire Department and was a veteran of the United States Army serving in World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gooch was preceded in death by his wife, Lanelle Howard Gooch and brother, Donald Gooch, and his sister, Doris Wilbanks.
Survivors include his sons, David Gooch and his wife Marsha of Jefferson, Carl Gooch and his wife Pam of Milledgeville; sister, Dot Craven of Jefferson; three grandchildren, Chuck Gooch and his wife Maureen of Bethlehem, Kellee Gooch of Nashville, TN and Elizabeth Gooch of Milledgeville; 3 great grandchildren also survive.
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Langley officiating. The burial will follow in the White Plains Baptist Cemetery with Keith Hayes, Tony Hayes, Sid Gooch, Chuck Gooch, Kevin Pope and Will Ruark honored as pallbearers. Mike Langford and Andy Wilbanks will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM at Evans Funeral Home.
