Dr. Frederick Merle Lee, age 83 of Beechwood Boulevard, Toccoa passed away Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at his residence.
A son of the late Ronald George Lee and Ophelia Ducharme` Lee, Dr. Lee was born July 12, 1935 in Lafayette, Louisiana. He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1953, graduated from Southwestern Louisiana Institute in 1957 and graduated from Louisiana State University Medical School in 1961. Dr. Lee did his internship at Charleston South Carolina Naval Hospital in 1962 and in 1963 was a U.S. Navy Flight Surgeon stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station in Florida. He was deployed to Southeast Asia in Da Nang, Vietnam from January through June of 1965. Dr. Lee served his residency at the Naval Hospital in San Diego, California from 1965-1969 and was an Urologist at the Naval Hospital, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina from 1969-1973. He was a member of two Marine Squadrons; VMFA-122, Atsugi, Japan and VMA-211, El Toro, California. Dr. Lee retired from the U.S. Navy in 1973 and joined the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1981 serving with the 932nd Aeromedical Airlift Group, Military Airlift Command at Robins Air Force Base in Georgia. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve in 1995. Dr. Lee was a practicing Urologist at the Toccoa Clinic from 1973-1997. Dr. Lee was a resident of Toccoa, Georgia since 1973. He was a member of the Toccoa First United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a brother, Charles Ronald Lee.
Dr. Lee is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Faye “Pogue” Lee; three sons, Scott Lee and wife Elizabeth of Evans, Georgia, Randy Lee and wife Amy of Toccoa and Ricky Lee and wife Rachel of Roswell, Georgia; daughter, Jennifer Lee Murdoch of Dacula, Georgia; six grandsons, Christopher Lee, Stephen Lee, Jared Lee, Harrison Murdoch, Tanner Lee and Jimmy Lee; four granddaughters, Rachel Lee, Catherine Lee, Emma Grace Murdoch and Piper Lee; sister-In-Law, Peggy Lee of Lafayette, Louisiana and nephews, Ted Lee and Ron Lee.
Funeral services will be Monday, July 23, 2018, 11 O’clock a.m. in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Dr. John Brown officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Stephen Lee, Jared Lee, Tanner Lee, Harrison Murdoch, Christopher Lee and Ted Lee.
The family will be at the home on Beechwood Boulevard and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Sunday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.acree-davisfh.com.
Entombment will follow in the Stephens Memorial Mausoleum with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy Honor Guard and the V.F. W. Post 4346 Honor Guard. Acree-Davis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Dr. Frederick Merle Lee.
