Sara Henson : The Woman Behind the Legendary Voice of First National Bank in Gainesville.
Sara Ann Barrett Henson, age 86 of Gainesville, passed away on July 10, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Memorial Park North Riverside Chapel. Rev. Maxie Ladd will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm- 3:00pm on Sunday, July 22, 2018
Sara was born on April 5, 1932 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Ed Barrett and the late Blanch Poole Barrett. Sara was the first bank teller at First National Bank from 1950 – 1954. She left the bank and began working at Chemell’s Hatcheries and worked there until the birth of her first son in 1958. She returned to the First National Bank in March of 1974 and retired on March 31, 1997.
Many people in the community will remember Sara for her unique way of answering the phone, “Good Morning, First National.” You could tell by her voice that she was smiling from ear to ear.
Sara was the President, Vice President and Treasurer of HPC Club (a sponsor of Thornwell Orphanage). She was also the President, Vice President & various tournaments chairman of Chattahoochee Ladies Golf Association. Sara was a proud graduate of Viviane Woodard Cosmetology School. She loved golf, yardwork and her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years Jimmy Henson, Sr.; her parents Ed and Blanch Barrett; sister Eddie Mae Quillian.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jimbo and Linda Henson, son and daughter-in-law Mike and Christina Henson, son and daughter-in-law Bob and Erica Henson; grandchildren Lindsey, Georgia, Julia, Jared, Nick and Nathan; and great-grandchildren Gavin and Willow.
