Linda Elizabeth Albritton Powe passed away at age 80 in Hospice care at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Curry Cumby Albritton and William Pinkston Albritton, Sr. of Firsco City, AL; her brother William Pinkston Albritton, Jr. and sister-in-law Letty Williams Albritton of Athens, AL; brother-in-law Mack Powe of Camden, AL; and her husband Thomas Alva Powe, Jr. of Auburn, AL. She is survived by her sister Gay (Johnny) Albritton Caspers of Alabaster, AL; her sister-in-law Judy Pate Powe of Camden, AL; her daughter Beth (Nathan) Powe Hickman of Opelika, AL; her daughter Kathy (Don) Powe Deavers of Lula, GA; six grandsons: Josh (Tammy) Hickman of Eufaula, AL; Sam (Kristina) Hickman of Opelika, AL; Seth (Kim) Hickman of Elgin, OK; Jamie Hickman of Opelika, AL; Dalton Deavers of Lula, GA; and Dallas Deavers of Lula, GA; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Linda grew up in Firsco City, AL then attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute and graduated in the last class before the name was officially changed to Auburn University. She married Thomas A. Powe, Jr in 1961. For several years she assisted him in his Veterinary Practice in Monroeville, AL. In 1973 the family moved to Auburn where she was a longtime resident. While living in Auburn, Linda also earned a Master’s Degree from Auburn University. She was an elementary school teacher for a short time and then was employed by Auburn University Extension Service as an Administrative Assistant. She was also a caregiver for her mother and her husband. Her sweet, kind & caring spirit will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Auburn First Baptist Church, Auburn, AL on Friday June 15 at 1 pm. Family will be receiving guests following the service in the Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Auburn First Baptist Church or Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
