Obituary for Barbara Ellen Pormen, 79, of Gainesville, GA.

Barbara Ellen Pormen, born in Clebit, OK, passed quietly into her eternal home Tuesday June 5th, 2018, in Gainesville, GA, after a long struggle with early onset dementia and a degenerative heart valve condition. 

Mrs. Pormen retired from Howland Local Schools in Warren, Ohio, where she served as an Elementary Librarian. Previously, Mrs. Pormen traveled extensively with the US Civil Service.

Mrs. Pormen is survived by her husband of 49 years, Paul Earnest Pormen, Jr. and two daughters: Lynn Swanson of Delaware, OH, and Emilie Lancaster of Lilburn, GA, and their spouses Matt Swanson and Jonathan Lancaster, and two granddaughters, Eleanor and Saralyn Bush. Mrs. Pormen is also survived by her sister, Toni Allen of Broken Bow, OK, and family, and sisters-in-law Diane Mangum and Carol McGarry.

Mrs. Pormen was preceded in death by her parents, Theron and Lily Mae McGarry, and siblings Theron McGarry, Jr., Georgia Lee McGarry, Delcie Idabel Mabe, and Paul McGarry.

Mrs. Pormen will be remembered for her greatest joys: a love of books, a talent for quilting, and a lifetime of travel which took her around the world.

A memorial service is planned for Friday June 29th at 11am at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 2023 Memorial Park Dr, Gainesville, GA 30504. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Barbara Pormen Memorial Fund at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Gainesville are encouraged.
