Dorothy Pritchett York

Dorothy Pritchett York, age 89, of Demorest, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, June 6, 2018.

Mrs. York was born on June 12, 1928, in the Pea Ridge Community, Cornelia, Georgia; a daughter of the late Louis and Alvie Free Pritchett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, James William York; brothers: Jack, M.L., and Messer Pritchett; sisters: Gladys Pritchett York, Bonnie Pritchett Church, and Mable Pritchett Ferguson; and son-in-law, Darrell Tucker. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Mrs. York retired from the Habersham Board of Education having served in the lunchroom. She loyally served the students at Clarkesville Elementary for many years. Mrs. York enjoyed crocheting, ceramics, gardening, working with her flowers, and watching things grow. She attended Habersham Baptist Church.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Faye Tucker of Clarkesville; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Lynn “Jan” Hames and Rick of Clarkesville and Jody Leigh Wall and David of Clarkesville; sons and daughters-in-law, James Michael “Jimmy” York and Wanda of Clarkesville and Rev. Chris Douglas York and Sharon of Demorest; grandchildren: Paige Farrow, James B. York, John Michael York, Joseph York, Kevin York, Jeremy York, and Jason Roberts; and twelve great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia, with Rev. Chris York officiating. Interment will follow in Habersham Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the funeral home.
