Keith Weldon Caston

Obituary Date: Sunday, June 3, 2018

Keith Weldon Caston, Gainesville, left this earth on Sunday, June 3, 2018 to join his parents in Heaven. Keith was born on November 3, 1963 to Gerald and Barbara Caston. He was a very shy child who was always smiling and looking for adventure. He loved Oreo cookies and stepping in puddles with his expensive corrective shoes, to the admonishment of his big sister and mother.

Keith was a regular at the NEGMC ER as a child. He suffered from asthma, drank gasoline that had been stored in a Coke bottle, ate a bottle of aspirin, jabbed an arrow in his face, broke his leg and collarbone climbing where he shouldn’t, and got hit by a car (as a teenager). He kept his family busy just keeping him out of danger. He was also filled with the entrepreneurial spirit—he always had a supply of candy (purchased at the Golden Pantry) to sell to kids whose parents would not let them walk the trail through the woods to the store. Keith was always happy to loan his parents and siblings money from his candy enterprise if needed.

Keith graduated from Gainesville High School is 1982 where he played soccer. He joined the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a Blackhawk helicopter mechanic and paratrooper until 1989 when he became a recruiter.  He overcame his shyness to become the number 1 recruiter for the U.S. Army for the entire nation in 1993. He retired from service in 2000. He worked for AT&T until becoming disabled in 2015.

Keith reconnected with his high school crush, Gina Garner, and they were married in 2001. He served as a devoted husband and proud father to Harrison, racking up hundreds of miles each weekend going to martial arts competitions. He was affectionately known by his nieces and nephews as Uncle Booboo and found no greater joy than playing with them.  They adored him.

Keith is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mary & Ben Cook and Mauline & Eben (Bud) Caston, his parents Barbara & Gerald Caston, and his nephew Charles Caston. He is also predeceased by Gina’s parents, Pat Garner Hughes and Tony Garner. He is survived by his wife, Gina Garner Caston, son Harrison Caston, sister Kim (Phil) Davis and brother Wayne (Debbie) Caston, sister-in-law Shelly (Scott) Black and father-in-law, Phil Hughes. He is also survived by nieces Claire Caston, Taylor Buffington, Carly Buffington and nephews Ross Caston, PJ (Lauren) Davis, Caston Davis, Austin Black,  great-nephew Tripp Davis and great-niece Collins Davis. He was greatly loved by a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Keith was an animal lover and made the last years of a retired circus pony’s life the best it could be. He loved Sonny.  He leaves behind his precious fur babies, Lucky, Koda, Roxie and Sweetpea.

Visitation for family and friends will be Sunday, June 10 from 2-4 p.m. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 in the Chapel at Little & Davenport with Maxie Ladd officiating.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Hall County Humane Society, 845 West Ridge Rd., Gainesville, GA 30501 in Keith’s memory.
