Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, born March 17, 1929 and raised in Clifton, New Jersey, predeceased by husband of 48 years, Arthur Provan, and resident of Campobello, South Carolina for 32 years.
Survived by two loving daughters, Susan (David) Hulse of Woodstock, GA and Laura (Glen) Hurst of Simpsonville, SC; four grandchildren, Gretchen McWhorter (Justin) of Canton, GA and Anne Edwards (Kyle) of Canton, Daniel Hurst of Fort Bragg, NC, Erin Gerald (Ryan) of Greenville, SC and six great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Blake and Lawson McWhorter, Lydia, Charlotte and Katherine Edwards of Canton, GA.
Born and raised in New Jersey, Gladys worked as a librarian at the Fairfield Public Library before retiring and relocating to South Carolina. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church Landrum, where she served on the prayer team, volunteered at Operation Hope and taught a ladies Sunday School class. Gladys also served as president of both her Christian Women’s Club and the Garden Club, and later was instrumental in founding a Veteran’s Garden Park in Landrum. She loved the Lord Jesus, and even participated in a new church plant in South Carolina in her early eighties. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 121: 1-2.
Her family wishes to thank the caregivers at The Oaks in Cumming, GA for all of the loving care and attention she received there.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at First Baptist Church Woodstock, 11905 GA-92, Woodstock, GA 30188, in the Magnolia Room, which is located in the second floor of the main Worship Center. A Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent in her name to either Operation Hope in Landrum, SC, Miracle Hill Ministries in Greenville, SC, or The Hope Center in Woodstock, GA.
