Louise Stargel Christy

Obituary Date: Saturday, May 12, 2018

Memorial Park announces the passing of Louise Stargel Christy, Sunday, May 12, 2018, at her home in Gainesville, Georgia.  Eulogy and inurnment services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Memorial Park Funeral Home prior to the service.

Born Ella Louise Stargel in Monroe Georgia, December 30th 1931, daughter of Joseph Hoyt Stargel and Josie Mae Cato Stargel, Louise did most of her growing up in Gainesville Georgia.  Although both have passed, Louise also had two brothers:  Joseph H. (Joe) Stargel, retired Marine Lieutenant Colonel, Judge and former Mayor of Gainesville, and Louis Ruben (Lou) Stargel, retired Marine Major and former Hall County Commissioner.

Growing up in Gainesville, Louise was a great student and athlete.  She was a stand-out member of the class of 1950 at Gainesville High School, serving as captain of the basketball team and the cheerleading team, and receiving a scholarship to attend Brenau College.  However, instead of attending college, she decided to start a family and married William Lamar (Bill) Christy, the man that would be her husband for nearly 58 years, until his death in April 2008.

Louise and Bill had three children:  William Lamar Christy, Jr. (Chris), Steven Wade Christy (Steve), and Daniel Louis Christy (Dan), who gave them six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Louise and Bill, both became entrepreneurs owning and operating several businesses throughout the years:  public and private cable TV systems, real estate and land development, building construction, a NAPA Auto Parts store, a sporting goods store, and even a beauty salon (which was really her favorite).  Over the years they lived in Gainesville Georgia, Detroit Michigan, as well as Murphy, Robinsville, Sylva and Cashiers North Carolina.

After Bill Christy passed away 10 years ago, Louise left North Carolina and returned to her home of Gainesville Georgia, where she met Billy Rogers, an old boyfriend from her high school days in the late 1940’s.  They decided to spend their remaining years together, so Louise and Billy bought a home just off Thompson Bridge Road, where they lived for about eight years, until her recent passing.

Louise was always on the go – never idle – always working on something.  She was a hard worker, often having two and even three jobs while she raised her family, but still made time to somehow make everyone feel special.  She was a devoted wife; a loving, supportive mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; a dedicated member of her community; and a reliable friend to so many.  She was wise and caring, and she impacted the lives of everyone she met.  She will be truly missed by many.
