Wiley Lewis Reed

Wiley Lewis Reed, age 95 of Belmont Community, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2018 with family by his side.

Funeral services will held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Nix, Rev. Darin Cain and Rev. Larry Forrester officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 10, 2018 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at the funeral home.

Wiley was born on March 4, 1923 in Jackson County, Georgia to the late Henry Grady and Dora Irvin Reed. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After the war, he married his first love, Conell Waters. Together they built a home and raised three beautiful children, Noreen, Randal and Lisa. Wiley retired from Miliken – Gainesville Mill Plant after 37 years of service.

In 1992, he married the second love of his life, Mary Jo Gaddy Riley. They enjoyed their life together; camping, fishing, and vacationing with grandkids and their mountain get-away in Sautee. He was of the Baptist Faith and attended Dewberry Baptist Church #2 and a member of the Sunshine Sunday School Class. He enjoyed the fellowship with the church members, especially when they were going to Golden Corral, Runway Fish House or anywhere they had catfish.

Mr. Reed was preceded in death by his wife, Conell Waters Reed, whom he adored; infant son, Larry Wiley Reed; brothers, Charles Reed and Edwin Reed; sister, Myrtice Simmons; son, Danny Riley. 

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Mary Jo Reed; children, Noreen (Frank) Sherwood of Flowery Branch; Randal (Susan) Reed of Jefferson; Lisa (Rick) Fair of Jeffersonville; Kathy (Mike) Clark of Gainesville; daughter-in-law, Debbie (Bob) Brookins of California, Maryland; brothers, Paul (Bernice) Reed of Charlotte, NC; sister, Ruth (Cooledge) Cooper of Brasleton; sister-in-laws, Helen McDonald of Dahlonega; Eva Jane Osborne of Carnesville; Betty Jo Gaddy of Lula; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; special sons and daughters, Tony and Wanda Norris of Hollywood, Maryland; Chuck and Janeen Saye of Hurt, VA; great mountain cabin friends, Butch and Bobbie Rees and Edith Bowden all with whom he had a very special love and bond; numerous nephews and nieces. To cherish and honor his memory and legacy “Pappy’s Sweet Little Buddy”, Mckenna Rose.  

The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to Homestead Hospice for all their love and never ending care of “Mr. Wiley”. We would like to especially thank Michele Dunn, Laura Gresham, Katie Sharkey and Dr. Robert Klassen. A very special love and thanks to his sister-in-law, friend and care taker, Eva Jane Osborne for being with him and loving him to the end. We know that he will always be in your hearts.
