Charles Henry Taylor

Obituary Date: Tuesday 1st May 2018

Mr. Charles Henry Taylor, 89, entered into heaven peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 following an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 3 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home Main.  Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.  Rev. Myles Brown, Rev. Randall Reed, and Rev. Jeffery Scroggs will officiate.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 2-4 and 6-8.

Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his father the Reverend Bunyan Taylor and mother, Elnora Stancil Taylor.

He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Edith Hogan Taylor; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara Taylor and James Lee Scroggs; grandchildren, Rev. Jeffery Taylor and Amber Camilla Scroggs and Jason Daniel and Holly Jean Scroggs; great-grandchildren, Elisabeth Arwen Scroggs and Samuel Taylor Scroggs, brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Judy Taylor; sister, Eleanor Wilson; brother-in-law and sister-in-law,  Shorty and Judy Hogan; one special niece, Sandra Skelton; a number of other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Taylor was a Gospel singer for most of his life.  He sang with such groups as Homeland Harmony Boys, The Chapeleers, and Georgia.  He retired from singing at the age of 80.  He was a deacon at First Baptist Church of Oakwood and served as their Minister of Music for 10 years.

He had a successful business, Taylor Enterprises, in which he sold and delivered car parts and oil.  His clients became his friends.
