Joseph (Joey) Patrick Kennedy

Funeral services for Joseph “Joey” Patrick Kennedy, age 58 of Cornelia will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, May 3, 2018 at Hillside Memorial Chapel. Rev. Swayne Cochran will officiate with interment to follow the service in Hillside Gardens Cemetery.

Joey passed away Sunday, April 29, 2018.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 11, 1960, Joey was the son of Joseph W. “Jay” and Faye Cochran Kennedy.  He graduated from Butler High School in Augusta, Georgia and he attended North Georgia Technical College. Joey served as a Director of the Athens Jaycees and received awards as Outstanding Board Member, President’s Award of Honor, and Jaycee of the Month several times.  Joey enjoyed attending the NHRA Southern Nationals drag races in Commerce, Georgia and he had a passion for music.  Joey was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Dr. J. W. Kennedy, Sr and Amelia Kennedy of Memphis, Tennessee; Obe Cochran and Rilla Cochran of Maysville, Georgia

Survivors include his wife of 20 years Patricia Kennedy of Cornelia, parents Joseph W. “Jay” And Faye C. Kennedy of Cornelia, stepdaughter Judie Whitener, stepson David Whitener, sister and brother in law Melissa and Bain Ayres and niece Ashtyn Kennedy Ayres of Canton and nephew Robert “Trey” Ayres of Orlando, Florida, aunt and uncle Jodi Kennedy Reed and Mark Reed of Citrus Heights, California, aunts Louise Davidson and Gladys Cochran of Maysville, step grandchildren Kimmie, Zadon, Matt, Sam, Serenity, Aubery, and many cousins.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday prior to the service from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM.
