Ralph Edward Toth, age 87, of the Gardens of Gainesville, passed away peacefully at home on April 23, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, April 26, 2018 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina.
He was born in Painesville, Ohio on July 23, 1930 to Edward and Alice Toth. Ralph graduated from Harvey High School and was in his senior year at John Carroll University when he was drafted by the U.S. Army. He served his country through the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and after twenty-two years of service, retired as a Chief Warrant Officer, CW4. He and his family moved to North Carolina and Ralph spent the next eighteen years working for the state of North Carolina’s Employment Security Commision.
On August 1, 1954, Ralph married Florence Elizabeth Shaw at Fort Jackson’s Post Chapel. During his long working career, Ralph served. He was President of the Lion’s Club, headed the PTA for the school, taught Sunday School, and was an ordained Deacon in his local church.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Alice Toth; brother Richard “Pete” Toth; sister Esther Toth Meyers; daughter Deborah Toth Armenti; son-in-law Bo James; and grand daughter Jennifer Gruenfeld Beedy.
Mr. Toth is survived by his wife of 63 years Florence Elizabeth Shaw Toth; sister Betty Toth Williams of Kissimmee, Florida; daughters Elizabeth Toth Crowder of Flowery Branch, Georgia, Linda Toth James of Clayton, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law Eddie and Allison Toth of Suwanee, Georgia; eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mr. Toth is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Bo James Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Rabun County Board of Education, 963 Tiger Connector Tiger, Georgia 30576, or to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 15829 Arlington, VA 22215, in memory of Mr. Toth.
