Grady Lee Chitwood

Grady Lee Chitwood, age 87, of Mt. Airy, Georgia, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2018, following an extended illness.

Mr. Chitwood was born on March 23, 1931, in Habersham County, Georgia, to the late Elijah and Ella Chitwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margarette Cross Chitwood and two infant siblings. Mr. Chitwood was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps having served during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Good News Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Mr. Chitwood was a retired truck driver.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Ronda Chitwood of Mt. Airy; son, Donnie Chitwood of Mt. Airy; sister, Mary Scroggs of Nicholson; brothers, Dan Chitwood of Baldwin and Joe Chitwood of Lula; grandchildren: Michelle Wright, Kimberly Garrison, and Carrie Canup; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia, with Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in Good News Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the United States Marine Corps Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at the funeral home.
