Harold Southern

Mr. Harold Southern, age 84 of Dahlonega passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018.

Mr. Southern was born in Dawson County on December 10, 1933.  He was preceded in death by his wife Opal Waters Southern, parents Cicero and Nette Simmons, and son in law Tommy Hunsinger.  Mr. Southern lived in Lumpkin County most of his life.  He worked in construction and farmed until his health would not let him anymore. Mr. Southern was a member of New Hope Baptist Church.  

Survivors include his son Keith Southern, Dahlonega; son and girlfriend Brian Southern and Liz Ramsay, Dahlonega; daughter Cheryl Hunsinger, Dahlonega; grandchildren Amber and Jarred Ricketts; great grandchild Sophia Belle Ricketts; “grand dog” Mary Jane; sister and brother in law Murrell and Masteen Bearden; brother and sister in law Junior and Nell Simmons; brother  Robert Simmons; brother and sister in law Albert and Sue Simmons, all of Dahlonega.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Monday, April 23, 2018 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.  Interment will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
