Douglas Garland Bass

Obituary Date: Friday, April 13, 2018

Mr. Douglas Garland Bass, age 84, passed away Friday, April 13, 2018 with his wife and children by his side at his home that he loved in Dahlonega.

Douglas was born in Black Creek, NC on July 5, 1933 to the late William Garland Bass and Dixie Lois Williamson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Sue and brother Billy. Douglas was called upon by his country to serve and he did so faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War. 

Affectionately known by his grandchildren as “GDad”, he was loved and cherished by his family very much. Also known by family and friends as “Dougie-Fresh”, Douglas knew what it was to live, to laugh, and to love. He taught his family this every day. He was a charming and generous man who never met a stranger. 

He is survived by his wife, his everything Wanda Bass, Dahlonega; daughter Kym Janasov (Joseph), Duluth; son David Bass (Dede), Birmingham, AL; daughter Diane Kesler (David), Dahlonega; son Terry Bass, Buford; daughter Sherry Griggs (Bob), Dahlonega; daughter Cindy Bass, Duluth; sister Carolyn Casey, Annapolis, MD; brother Butch Bass Cookeville, TN; sister Dixie Lynn Slebzak, Lewes, DE; brother Wayne Sterago, Annapolis, MD; sweet cousin Evelyn Price (Eddie), Wilson, NC; thirteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and two more on the way. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.   

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the chapel of Banister Funeral Home.  The Rev. Thomas Brookshire will officiate.  Mr. Bass will receive military honors at his service and his wishes were to be cremated. The family will receive friends before the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.  Following the service the family will have a reception and celebration of Doug’s life at the funeral home.

House plants are optional, however the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of Northeast GA, 2150 Limestone Pkwy #222, Gainesville, GA 30501.
