Mary Elizabeth Crenshaw Smith

Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Crenshaw Smith, age 93, of Line Road in Toccoa passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at the Clary Center of Toccoa.

A daughter of the late William and Sally Thrasher Crenshaw, she was born August 4, 1924 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of her life in Stephens County, Georgia. She was employed with Radio Station WLET and WNEG for a number of years, with Lakeview Iron Works and the Stephens County School System. She was secretary for the First United Methodist Church for a number of years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a member of the Rhodes Sunday School Class, choir member, UMW and the Friendship Club. She was a volunteer worker for the American Cancer Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walton T. Smith in 1998 and by eleven siblings.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Ted Jackson of LaGrange, Georgia; three sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky and Veran Smith of Gainesville, Georgia, Roger and Debra Smith of Knoxville, Tennessee and Tony and Elizabeth Smith of Martin, Georgia; ten grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah Allen of Surf Side Beach, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 14, 2018 at 11 O’clock a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Toccoa with The Reverend Dr. John Brown, The Reverend Bob Partridge and The Reverend Robin Parr officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Matthew Brooks, Lane Brooks, Will LaFrance, Dale Jackson, Steven Swol and Michael Spoerri.

The family will receive friends at The Acree-Davis Funeral Home Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. and again at the First Untied Methodist Church McNeely Hall Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with The Acree-Davis Funeral in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Crenshaw Smith.
