James Harrison Lancaster, 70, of Clermont passed away at 10:22 p.m. on March 29, 2018 surrounded by his family in Gainesville.
The son of Dr. Homer Harrison Lancaster and Lucy Hale Lancaster, Jim was born September 10, 1947 in Gainesville and grew up in New Holland. In 1995, Jim joined Carol Lancaster in holy matrimony and was blessed to share 23 years with her. Jim graduated from Truett-McConnell College before serving in the United States Navy. Upon completion of his naval service, Jim continued his passion for serving others by dedicating more than 30 years to the fire department where he retired as a Battalion Chief. As a brother, father, and grandfather, Jim strived to always be available for his family and enjoyed helping them all in any way possible.
Jim certainly had a family who loved him as much as he loved them. Jim is survived by his wife Carol; his children Elizabeth “Libby” (and Jeff) Watson, Michael (and Phet) Lancaster, Mark Lancaster, Duane (and Brandi) Browning, Jason Browning, Josh Browning, and Shayden Maynor; 15 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Mary Dobbs and Martha (and Walter) Byrd.
Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Gainesville to include visitation and viewing at 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-9:00pm on Monday, April 2, 2018, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
