Vera Lyons LeFevre was born on August 9th, 1929, in Birmingham, Alabama. She was the daughter of Jack and Vera Lyons. Vera was raised in Birmingham, Alabama, and graduated from Woodlawn High School.
On December 27th, 1952, Vera married Byron Hugh LeFevre and the two were happily married for 64 years. Vera was a loving wife and wonderful mother. She and Byron were the proud parents of three children; Tom, David and Linda.
During the first years of their marriage, the two travelled around the country as Byron served in the United States Air Force. After Byron completed his service, they moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where Byron became a pilot for Delta Airlines.
In 1973, Vera and Byron moved to Dahlonega, Georgia, where Vera loved all things outdoors. Those who knew Vera would attest to her love for animals. She could frequently be found outside wrangling her chickens and feeding all types of various wildlife. When visiting, you were sure to be greeted by dogs, cats, chickens or guinea hens.
When Vera moved to Dahlonega, she pursued her interest in ventriloquism and studied to learn the skill. She became a member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians and affectionately became known as “The Puppet Lady” all across North Georgia. Vera participated in countless Vacation Bible Schools and carried her puppets (Roscoe, Jingo and Grandpa) all over the area to nursing homes, churches, and schools. She made weekly visits to the nursing home in Dahlonega for almost forty years.
After Byron retired from Delta Airlines, the two enjoyed traveling the Southeast in their motorhome and spending time with their seven grandchildren.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband Byron Hugh LeFevre; her parents Jack and Vera Lyons and sister Peggy Lyons Eargle. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Tom and Susan LeFevre of Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law David and Pat LeFevre of Douglasville; daughter and son-in-law Linda and Trent Conner of Dahlonega; granddaughter Ashley (Allen) Ligon; granddaughter Jennifer (Alan) Schuetze; grandsons Scott LeFevre, Richard LeFevre, Michael Conner, Brian (Ally) LeFevre; granddaughter Jillian (Chris) Toombs; and sister-in-law Marilyn Iott of Salem, South Carolina.
