Robert Tinsley Catron Jr., age 83, passed away in his sleep at his home in Buford, GA March 24, 2018.
Bobby was born in Atlanta, Ga. in 1934. He was the son of the late Robert Tinsley Catron and May Andrews Padgett Catron. He is preceded in death by his wife Judy S. Catron of 35 years, his parents and 2 sisters, MaryJane Mcgouirk and Betty Elaine Norton.
As a young boy, Bobby was part of the Atlanta Boys Choir where his love of music and singing began. He learned to play piano and harmonica which he continued playing throughout his life. He and Judy were proud members of the Silvertones Choir at Buford First Baptist. He loved singing and harmonizing and took great pride in knowing he passed that love down to several of his children and grandchildren.
Bobby also took pride in serving in the US Navy during the Korean War. He loved his country, God, and his family. He joined Druid Hills Baptist Church in 1946 when he was 12 years old but later attended Avondale First Baptist for many years. After attending Ga. State, Bobby started his career in real estate working with his mother at Catron Realty. Later he decided on a career with Life of Georgia Insurance Company where he worked for 35 years until retiring.
Bobby leaves behind his 6 children: Tammy (& Glenn) Cunningham, Melanie (& David) Tyler, Lori Johnson (Darrell Lambert), Patti Catron, Bobby Catron III, Brady Catron; 2 step daughters: Kathy (& Mike) Madigan, & Rhonda Winn; 10 grandchildren: Angie Homer, Jessica Caruso, Ben Cunningham, Jamie Catron, Tony Tyler, Joshua Catron, Tessa Bell, Amy Fisher, Tara Madsen, Johnny Goga; 3 step grandchildren: Christopher Madigan, McKenna Madigan, and Hannah Payne; His brother: Benjamin Thomas Catron; His sister: Joanne Padgett Catron, and several nieces, nephews and great grandchildren, as well as his beloved best friend Charlie, his dog.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery in Stone Mountain, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 2:00 until time of service at 3:00 p.m.
