Mary Alice Thomas

Mary Alice Thomas, age 87 of Cumming, passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2018. She was born the fourth of eight children to Edith Cain and Buell Martin on Wednesday, April 9, 1930 and she married Bonnie Thomas, son of Beulah Merritt and George Thomas. Mary Alice began work at the Basket Factory as a teenager and later joined Frito Lay where she remained until she retired. She was an active member of Coal Mountain Baptist Church and was the oldest surviving member of the Coal Mountain WMU. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bonnie Thomas; parents, Edith Mae and Buell Martin.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Sheila and Paul Bishop of Cumming; brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Robert and Shirley Martin of Cumming; sister, Diane Martin Gravitt of Cumming; sisters-in-law, Zeliah Samples Martin of Cumming, Mary Ruth Gravitt of Cumming, Dorothy Jean Burruss of Cumming, Inez Smith of Gainesville; brother-in-law, Harold Dean “Bud” Thomas of Cumming; and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 18th at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of Ingram Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Bennett, Rev. Tim Hubbard and Rev. Pete Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Saturday from 3:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 pm until hour of the service.
