Jake William “Billy” Martin, was born on October 27, 1942. Billy passed away peacefully on March 14, 2018. Billy is survived by his wife of 54 years, whom he adored with all his heart, Barbara Crumley Martin, his dear children, J. William “Jay” Martin, Jr. and his wife Heather, J. Kori Martin and his wife Kathy, Malisa Martin Funderburk and her husband, Lance, and the light of his life his grandchildren: Jacob, Nash, Mallory, Ivey, Ben, Cade, Kodi, Cole, Ally, Trey, Tyler, and Travis. His brother, Jimmy Martin and his wife Lynn, and family friend, Sherri Massey. His family and friends were a big part of Billy’s life.
Billy graduated from Gainesville High School in 1960 as an All State Team Player for football and basketball, and an All American his senior year for football. His jersey was retired at Gainesville High School in 2009, he received a full scholarship to Georgia Tech graduating in 1965 after playing football and becoming All American and All SEC. He was drafted by the Chicago Bears, he also played for the Atlanta Falcons and Minnesota Vikings. He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, GA Tech Hall of Fame, and the North Georgia Historical Society Hall of Fame. He was the owner of HIS Properties and Faith Development. He was a very active church member at First Redeemer Church and board member of There’s Hope for the Hungry. Billy touched so many lives and gave back to so many.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 17, 2018, at First Redeemer Church, 2100 Peachtree Parkway, Cumming, GA 30040 from 9:30am to 11:00am with a Memorial Service following at 11:00am.
