Mary Emma Stribling, 89, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away at Lanier Village Estates on March 13, 2018. Mary Emma is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Warren Dickey “Dick” Stribling III.
Mary Emma was born on May 10, 1928 in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Miles and Lucy Wright. After graduating high school, she completed her B.S. degree at Emory University in 1951 and practiced nursing at Emory University Hospital. It was at Emory that she met her husband, Dick. They were married until his death in 1998.
In 1957, the Striblings moved to Gainesville where Dick began his medical practice at Northeast Georgia Diagnostic Clinic. Mary Emma retired from her nursing career and became a dedicated mother and active participant in the community. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church and taught Sunday School there for 35 years. She was a longtime member of the Junior Service League of Gainesville-Hall County and was its President in 1969 -70. She served on the Board of the Salvation Army through the 1960’s and was a Pink Lady at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center for many years. And in 1984, Mary Emma was named Gainesville-Hall County Woman of the Year for her public service.
Mary Emma is survived by her beloved family: her children, Warren and his wife Jamie of Gainesville; David of Gainesville; Sloane O’Neal of Atlanta; and Wade and his wife Celine of Atlanta; her 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 422 Brenau Avenue NE, Gainesville on Monday, March 19 at 10:30am followed by a church reception.
