Rev. Roy Lee Mitchell, age 88 of Cornelia, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.
Born in Carnesville, Georgia on February 12, 1930, he was a son of the late Cleo & Maggie Payne Mitchell. Rev. Mitchell was the owner/operator of Mitchell’s Body Shop and minister of the Gospel. During his 54 years of ministry, he pastored Crossroads Baptist Church for 15 years, Dewberry #2 for 25 years, Double Springs Baptist Church, and B. C. Grant Baptist Church. He loved reading his Bible and devoting time to God, his family, and friends. He also enjoyed gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Naomi Ruth Herrin Mitchell; grandson, Steve Dyer; brother, Carl Mitchell; sister, Bonnie Mitchell.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Diane & Stacey Carpenter of Cornelia; sons and daughters-in-law, Ricky & Melody Mitchell and Bobby & Kathy Mitchell all of Cornelia; 13 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 am, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Mud Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Lamar Kastner, Rev. Chris York and Rev. Austin Kelley officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Thursday at the funeral home.
