Evelyn Cantrell Smith

Evelyn Cantrell Smith, 86 of Gainesville passed away Sunday February 18, 2018 at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A lifetime resident of Gainesville, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late John and Nora Lee Dover Cantrell.  A graduate of Gainesville High School, Mrs. Smith earned her nursing certificate from Georgia Baptist School of Nursing.  She worked as a nurse in the Emergency Room at the old Downey Hospital which later became the Hall County Hospital.  Later in her years she worked for Dr. Martin Smith in his practice for a number of years before retiring.  Mrs. Smith was a member of the McEver Road Church of God of Prophecy.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Rev. David E. Smith, Sr. Gainesville; son, David E. Smith, Jr., Gainesville; grandchildren, Davey and Laura-Marie Smith, Gainesville; Christy and Dale Wheeler, Gainesville ; great-grandchildren, Andrew Smith, Hannah Smith, Ashley Abercrombie, Sawyer Abercrombie, Thatcher Wheeler, Easton Wheeler.  A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister.  

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday February 21, 2018 at the McEver Road Church of God of Prophecy.  Rev. Phil Smith and Rev. Davey Smith will officiate.  Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.   The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Tuesday February 20, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
