Phyllis Elaine Vessels, age 63 of Stone Mountain, GA, formally of Gainesville, GA passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Dekalb Medical Hospital in Decatur, GA. Phyllis E. Vessels was born on October 2, 1954 in Gainesville, GA. She graduated in 1972 from E.E. Butler High School and shortly thereafter, she joined the U.S. Air Force in 1975. She was in the Air Force for twenty years as a TSGT and received several awards: Longevity Service Award with (3) devices, Humanitarian Service Medal, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, Air Force outstanding Unit Award with (1) device, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with (5) devices, Air Force Achievement Medal with (1) device, Air Force Commendation Medal with (2) devices, Air Force Training Ribbon and Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon. In addition to her being very active in the Air Force, Ms. Vessels continued her education by obtaining an Accounting certificate from Middle Georgia Technical Institute, and Associates of Occupational Studies and Accounting from Asher School. Ms. Vessels was a graduate of Devry University in 2012 earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. She was later employed by Georgia Student Finance Commission in Tucker, GA for ten years.
She is survived by her sister Sharon L. Morton, brother Rev. Kenneth Brown, sister-in-law Addie Brown, brother-in-law Loyoll K. Parks, three nieces: Miyoshi Johnson, Tiera N. Morton, Renee Brown, two nephews Kendall Brown, Marius Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 705 Summit Street, Gainesville, GA at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be held at Wimberly & Jackson Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, 2018 between the hours of 12:00 noon - 7:00 PM. Internment: Alta Vista Cemetery, 521 Jones Street, Gainesville, GA.
