Grace Janice Foster Journigan, age 63, went to be in the arms of her Lord Tuesday, February 6, 2018 after a courageous battle against cancer. Janice was born October 17, 1954 in Mobile, Alabama to Norma Jewell Williams Foster and Owen Lavern Foster. She lived in Danville, Virginia the majority of her adolescent and young adult years. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Barry Phillip Journigan. They moved their family to Georgia in 1980 making Dahlonega, Georgia their forever home in 1988. Janice and Barry were married for 41 amazing years before he lost his battle with cancer in October, 2015.
Janice was also preceded in death by brothers Owen S.G. Foster, Paul Melvin Foster, and Floyd Ray Foster. She is survived by brothers Jerry Alton and Ely Foster of Danville, Virginia and Cecil Lavern & Mary Foster of Las Vegas, Nevada; daughters and sons in law Kim and Tim Chambers, Theresa and Andrew Roy, and Leslie Journigan and Jody Bryan; son and daughter in law William and Danielle Journigan; grandchildren Kessalyn Grizzle, Brittany Chambers and Johnathan Reece, Danielle Cardenas, Ashley Chambers, Jennifer Sims, Colt Sentell, Hunter, Hayden, and Hudson Roy, Andrew and Jacob Gable, Nathan Journigan, Zachary, Lindsey, and Bailey Journigan, Hailey Abercrombie, Camron and Logan Journigan, Dustin Sullens, Kinzley Journigan, Natesha Bagwell, Rhianna Hutto and James Wood; Great Grandbabies Kaeden & Trystan Grizzle, Venadee Sims, Tessa Grace Painter and Caliah Gable.
Janice was recently asked what type of work she retired from. Her reply was “Whatever honest work I could find to care for my children.” Janice loved her role as mother but her role as Mamaw by far brought her the most joy. The greatest lesson she taught her children was that blood did not make family, LOVE made family and she never treated any person differently. When told of her cancer she never backed down. “I’m in this for the long haul!” she said and she never hesitated. Mamaw showed us all that even when faced with your greatest battle you can find strength from the love you surround yourself with throughout your life. “Mama, I love you.” “Baby, I love you more!”
