William Lanford McCalley, age 92, of Gainesville, GA passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018.
Bill was married to the late Ruth Mobley McCalley for 47 years, and is survived by his wife, Pearlese Storms McCalley; three sons and wives, William C. McCalley and Amy of Moultrie, GA, Matt L. McCalley and Julie of Conyers, GA, and James D. McCalley and Lynda of Ames, Iowa; and eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Bill grew up in Atlanta and attended J.C. Harris Elementary School, Joe Brown Jr. High School, and was active in the Boy Scouts. He was a member of the Boys High School football team that won the 1941 GA High School Championship where he was also a 1943 graduate, attended the University of GA on a Football Scholarship, and was a 1953 graduate of Engineering Evening School at the GA Institute of Technology. He served 2 years in the United States Air Corps as an Aviation Cadet in WWII. He was a licensed pilot, coached Little League baseball, Pop Warner football, and played Senior Softball. He was employed by U.S. Gypsum Co. as Field Engineer and Manager, and retired from John Deere Metrac. He was a Lake Lanier resident since 1986, enjoyed golf, fishing, boating, hunting, and white-water canoeing. Bill was a member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services for Mr. McCalley are scheduled for 11 AM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Hillside Chapel Funeral Home in Gainesville, GA.
Rev. Philip McQueen will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:30 AM until service time.
A private family graveside will be held following the funeral service.
Honorary Pallbearers: Ralph Brooks, Buddy Myers, Nat Hancock, and Dr. John Range.
