Sidney Merle Foster

Obituary Date: Friday, January 26, 2018

On Thursday, January 25th, 2018, Sidney Merle Foster peacefully entered into rest at his home in Dawsonville, Ga.

Sidney was born in October of 1933 to Emory Hugh and Lillie Roselle (Pair) Foster of Atlanta, Ga.  He took great pride in being a veteran of the United States Navy during the Korean war and displayed his pride by wearing his Korean War Veteran ball cap during his visits to the Veterans Administration medical centers.  He drew strength from the camaraderie that he found with other veterans who were fighting their own health battles.

After his military service, Sidney began his 42 year career with Delta Air Lines in Atlanta, finally retiring in 1992.  In 1995, Sid, and his wife of 61 years, Kathy Foster, moved to Dawson County where Sid served the people of Dawson County Georgia for many years on both their Board of Equalization and as a bailiff in the Superior Court.

Sidney was a devout member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Dawsonville where he regularly served as an adult Sunday School teacher and occasional lay pastor.  He spent countless hours studying the Bible and developed an extensive knowledge of the history, stories and mysteries that it presented, and enjoyed discussing them with others.  He was the epitome of the word faithful, in that he was full of faith.  He knew exactly where this journey was leading and during the early morning hours of January 25th, he arrived.

Matthew 25:23 “His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Cecil, Gerald and Marion) and two sisters (Lillian and Delora).  He is survived by his wife, Kathy, daughter Cindy Burks, and sons Kenny and Steven.  As he said during the time of his 61st anniversary, "two became seventeen", and he loved and was exceedingly proud of all of his family including his son-in-law Paul Burks, daughters-in-law Gina Foster and Jennifer Foster, his grandchildren and their spouses Daniel and Elisa Burks, Megan (Foster) and Kyle Webb, Brent Burks, and Madyson Foster, and his great-grandsons, Brody and Landon Burks and Mason Parker Webb.

Sidney will be remembered for many things by many people, but his living example of God's grace and mercy will persevere.

John 14:3-4 " And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know"

The family would like to express their sincerest gratitude and tremendous appreciation to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Center for their loving care, support, and guidance through the entire process.  We would have been lost without you.

A memorial service will be planned for the Spring of 2018.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donation toward the Bethel United Methodist Church Building Fund at 100 Lumpkin Campground Road, Dawsonville, Ga.  30534
