Charles Alfred DeSaussure III

Charles Alfred DeSaussure III (Charlie) died peacefully on January 18, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA age 73.

Charlie is survived by his wife of 52 years and high school sweetheart Kathy Gardner DeSaussure, son Charlie DeSaussure IV and wife Mandy (Thurston) of Flowery Branch GA, son Ken DeSaussure and wife Claire (Crowe-Haylett) of Pleasant View, UT, son Bill DeSaussure and wife, Jenny (Pye) of Dallas, GA, grandchildren, Victoria, Charlie, Bailey, Grady and Wyatt, sisters Courtney DeSaussure Austin and Kay DeSaussure Orecchio, and a host of nieces and nephews. Charlie is preceded in death by parents, Kate and Charles DeSaussure II of Norwalk, CT and his sister Anne DeSaussure Shill of Spartanburg, SC.

Charlie was born on April 12, 1944 in Norwalk, CT. He attended Norwalk High School. He joined the US Air Force and served his country in Vietnam and Spain before settling in Grafton, Ohio. Over time, Charlie and Kathy welcomed three boys into their lives.

Charlie spent his life in service, not only to his country, but to his community. He was a volunteer fire fighter with Grafton Township and East Carlisle Township fire departments and EMT in Grafton, OH and served as Boy Scout leader for more than 43 years. He was an active member of Troop 203 and Assistant District Commissioner of Northeast Georgia Council. He volunteered with Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, VFW, and Sea Scouts.  He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

A service to honor Charlie and celebrate his life is scheduled for Wednesday, January 24 at 11 am at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, GA. Father Eric Hill will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charlie’s life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Disabled American Veterans at https://www.dav.org/.
