Marilyn Fitzgerald

Obituary Date: Friday, January 19, 2018

Marilyn Fitzgerald, 82 years old, of Glendora, CA and formally of New City, NY passed away peacefully on Friday, January 19, 2018.  She was born on October 1, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York.

Marilyn was an active and dedicated volunteer in her local community.  She was active in the Numismatic Association of Southern California, (NASC) where she served as Secretary and Treasurer, being honored with the “President’s Award” for her involvement and assistance to the coin club.

Marilyn volunteered at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora, CA, starting as a volunteer at the Reception Desk.  She was later hired as the Volunteer Services Secretary.  She served on the Advisory Board for the Foothill Presbyterian Hospital Jr. Auxiliary volunteer program.  Marilyn also trained and oversaw the Emergency Department Volunteer Program and supported the entire auxiliary with various fund-raising accomplishments over the years.

In 2013 Marilyn volunteered her time at the LaFetra Center, the senior center in Glendora, CA.  She was on the Holiday Committee and volunteered at the Boutique and Casino Night. Marilyn was appointed to the Membership Chair at a Partners Board Meeting in June of 2015.

Marilyn loved to travel, visiting many counties around the world, and was an avid gardener.  She loved a variety of plants from orchids and roses to beautiful annuals and exotic cacti that all attracted butterflies and hummingbirds.  She filled the world with beauty and will always be remembered for many things including her garden and her friendship.

Marilyn is survived by her sons and their wives; Michael and Kathleen, Gary and Rochelle, Patrick and Margaret; and her cousin Sally and her two daughters Elizabeth and Susan. Marilyn was also the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren; Sean (W. Rory), John, Caitlin, Christina (H. Troy), Torin, Andrew, Kathryn, Jacklyn and Bryan, as well as great-grandchildren Gabriella, Aiden, and Kristi.  She cherished and loved her nieces and nephew: Carol, Laura, and Russell.   She also continued to have a wonderful relationship with her former daughter-in-law Caroline.  She had many friends in New York who will miss her.

In California, she was loved by her dear friends Jay, Kris, Dawn, Cathie, and Pat who watched over her for many years and took care of her during her recent illness.  Their kindness and devotion is extraordinary and greatly appreciated.  May God bless them.

There will be a funeral mass in Georgia at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 2, 2018 and a memorial service in New York at St. Augustine Catholic Church in New City prior to her receiving funeral rites at her final resting place alongside loved ones.

Eternal rest grant Marilyn Fitzgerald, Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her.  May the soul of our faithful departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace, and may all her loved ones receive God’s healing.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (https://www.stjude.org/) or Shriners Hospitals for Children (https://www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org/shc) in Marilyn’s memory.
