Joseph Winston Wilson

Joseph Winston Wilson of Dahlonega, 87, died January 14th at The Oaks at Hampton in Cumming Ga.                                                                                                                                                  

Joseph was born in Bowden Georgia to the late Arthur and Henrietta Price Wilson. After graduating from Carrolton High School, Joseph married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Smith.  As newlyweds, Joe & Dot moved from Bowden to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where Joe proudly served as a paratrooper in the United States Army.  After Joe’s military service, he attended Georgia Tech, while working for General Motors in Doraville, Ga.  Joe worked with GM for 25 years until he retired as a data processing manager. 

Joe was a member of Dahlonega Baptist Church. His two hobbies in life were motorcycle trips with friends and square dancing.  He was lucky enough to pursue both hobbies into his eighties. He will be remembered for his generous spirit and his ability to strike up a friendly conversation with any person he met.

Joe was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years, Dorothy Smith Wilson; his second wife of 8 years, Shirley Wilson; his son, Jody Wilson; and grandson, Bud Burt. 

He is survived by his daughter, Rita Burt; grandchildren, Terri Baker and Brandon Burt; and great grandchildren, Quinn, Ethyn and Collin. He is also survived by his favorite grandson-in-law, Matthew Baker.

The funeral service will be held on February 3rd at 11:00 am at Dahlonega Baptist Church, Rev. William D. Hutchinson officiating.  Dahlonega Funeral Home Dahlonega, Ga.
