Coach Francis “Marion” Thompson, age 88, of Homer, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018.
Mr. Thompson was born on October 24, 1929, in Camden, South Carolina, to the late Broadus and Eva Wiley Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mareitta Wiley and brothers, Charles Thompson and John Thompson. Marion was a 1954 graduate of Clemson Military Academy. He was a teacher and coach with Buford City School System and retired after 32 years of service. Marion was a member of Homer United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Judy Thompson of Homer; daughter and son-in-law, Ponda and Thomas M. Whitworth of Homer; son, C. Lee Thompson of Homer; daughter-in-law, Cindy Smith of Lawrenceville; sisters, Sarah Holt of San Diego, California and Eva Thompson of Augusta; and grandchildren, Thomas A. Whitworth and Jessica L. Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at Homer United Methodist Church with Rev. Jim McLendon and Rev. James Turpen officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until the memorial hour on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the church.
