Mrs. Rebecca Ann Tollison Parsons, 71, of Gainesville went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Northeast Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
She was born and raised in Habersham County, a graduate of South Habersham High School, Cornelia, GA in 1965, and a graduate of Trinity College of Florida with a degree in Christian Education in 1970.
Rebecca served as a teacher with the Providence Christian School, Brandon, FL and the Temple Heights Christian School, Tampa, FL. She also served as a Paraprofessional and Media Assistant with the Gainesville City School System and retired in 2009 after 25 years of service.
Mrs. Parsons faithfully served alongside her husband, Rev. Samuel Parsons, as pastor’s wife for 48 years. They both served, worked, lived and raised their family in Gainesville for 40 years. She was a member of Blackshear Place Baptist Church, the Happy Hearts Bible Fellowship Class, and worked with Awana’s. She enjoyed her grandchildren, sewing, and quilting.
She was a sweet and faithful wife, loving and gentle mother and grandmother, caring and generous sister. She was a gentle, selfless and kind Christian. She loved children and served both the church and school.
She was the daughter of the late Jessie and Elsie (Ellis) Tollison, Cornelia.
Rebecca is survived by her loving spouse, Rev. Samuel Parsons, of 48 years, three children: son and daughter-in-love, Matthew and Angie (Lee) Parsons, Flowery Branch. Daughter and son-in-love, Kimberly (Parsons) and Chad Cope, Demorest. Son, Gregory Parsons, Gainesville. Two grandchildren, Hayden and Caroline Parsons, Flowery Branch. One sister: Sara (Tollison) Dailey and her spouse, Michael Dailey, Cornelia.
Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday January 16, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Blackshear Place Baptist Church with interment to follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens in Demorest, Georgia. The body will lie in state at the church on Tuesday January 16, 2018 from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. Reverend Jeff Crook will officiate. The family will receive friends on Monday, January 15, 2018, from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
