Barbara Jo Smith Sanford

Mrs. Barbara Jo Smith Sanford, age 77, of Jackson, GA formerly of Dahlonega, GA passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018.

Mrs. Sanford was born in Murrayville on March 18, 1940 to the late Robert and Moreen Ladd Hughes. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son Jack Smith and sister Carolyn Fields. To know her was to love her.  If you was a customer at the Chevron in Jackson, GA, “Mrs. Barbara” knew your name and you where loved by her.  Mrs. Sanford was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister.  She was affectionately called “Granny” by her grandchildren.  Mrs. Sanford was a simple lady, who loved to go to yard sales and buy any knickknack she could. 

Survivors include her husband John Sanford; daughter and son in law Sherry and James Lackey; daughter Janice Pate; daughter and son in law Teresa and Rick White; daughter and son in law Michelle and Robbie Badgley; daughter Cindy Woody; daughter and son in law Renee and Joe Dodd; son and daughter in law Ricky and Cindy Smith; brother and sister in law Bobby and Bridget Hughes; brothers Bud Hughes and Michael Hughes; sister Charlotte Hughes; 26 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren;  several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services are scheduled for 4 PM Monday, January 15, 2018 at Banister Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM Monday at the funeral home.
