Patricia Meryl Petros (January 13, 1927-December 28, 2017) began her new life in heaven after a long earthly life filled with faith and family. A memorial service will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs (Illinois) at 1 PM on Saturday January 13, 2018. Pat was born in Macomb Illinois to Eula Ruth Kennett (nee Hatfield) and John Hardesty Kennett where she grew up on the central Illinois family farm and then attended the University of Illinois, Champaign, IL where she met the love of her life George A. Petros of Chicago. Patricia received a BA in English. Pat and George were married after college and Pat began her career as a teacher. A gifted teacher, she taught all grades (k-12), but especially loved 4th grade. When children came along, Pat and George moved to Western Springs in suburban Chicago. Patricia was a charter (founding) member of the Presbyterian Church of Western Springs, which she regularly attended from 1955-2007 and held a variety of leadership positions including Deacon. She was active in volunteerism including teaching underprivileged children in Chicago to read, the PEO woman’s service organization, and bible studies at the church. She and George played bridge in multiple groups throughout her life. An avid genealogist, Patricia was a Daughter of the American Revolution (DAR), tracing her lineage back to Hugh LeMaster who served in George Washington’s army. A woman of deep and abiding Christian faith, Pat read the entire bible several times and encouraged others to do the same. She instilled the faith in her children Pamela Peterson and John Petros who were by her side at the time of her passing. Patricia is survived by her husband of 68 years George A. Petros, daughter Pamela Ruth Peterson of Burr Ridge IL, son John A. Petros, MD of Cumming GA and 6 grandchildren Matthew Litchford, Jennifer Petros, Kristen Petros, Julia Petros, Stephanie Petros and Jacqueline Petros. She was greatly loved and will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.
