George R. Palmer

George R. Palmer, Sr., 90, of Gainesville, GA passed away December 31, 2017.  George was born on February 10, 1927 in Atlanta, GA.  He was a proud WW2 veteran, serving in the US Navy aboard the Destroyer USS Russell.  In 1956, George married Patsy (Kilgore) Palmer, and they shared a life devoted to each other, and their family.

George founded Georgia Paint & Wall Covering in Decatur, GA; and lived in Conyers, GA and Pensacola, FL until retiring in Gainesville to be closer to his beloved family.  A giant, humble man, with a giant heart, his family was always the center of his world.  He was a lifelong Atlanta sports fan, and he, along with Patsy, never missed an Atlanta Braves or Falcons broadcast.  His eldest grandchild, Jessica L. Parkman, was his beloved “partner in crime”, and shared his love of fun and family.  He will be greatly missed by all of us who loved him.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Patsy (Kilgore) Palmer; children, Becky Buffington and husband, Wayne; and George Palmer, Jr.; grandchildren, Jessica Parkman, Jackson Palmer, Scarlett Palmer, and Georgia Palmer; nephew, Andy Hendricks.  He is also survived by his sister, Evelyn West; and brothers Dick Palmer, Paul Palmer, and Lloyd (Pete) Palmer, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. De De Leetch officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at GA National Cemetery in Canton, GA with military honors. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 7, 2018 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home in Buford.
