Estee Thompson, age 95, of Alto, Georgia passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017.
Mr. Thompson was born on October 28, 1922 in Alto, Georgia to the late Samuel and Flora Gailey Thompson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Cara Lou Fitzgerald; brothers, James Howard Thompson, J.C. Thompson, William Vance Thompson; and son-in-law, Clarence E. Sullivan. Mr. Thompson was a member of Alto Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School for several years. He was a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army Air Corp, serving during World War II. Mr. Thompson was a retired clerk with the Alto Post Office with 25 years of service.
Survivors include his loving wife of 72 years, Lucille Morris Thompson, of Alto; daughter, Cheryl Thompson Sullivan, of McCalla, AL; son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Rose Thompson, of Winder; sister-in-law, Louise Wade Thompson, of Alto; grandchildren, Brian Thompson, Christy Nerroth; great-grandchildren, Michael C. Nerroth III, and Joshua Nerroth.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 3, 2018 from the Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel with Rev. Raymond Payne and Rev. Billy Burrell officiating. Interment will follow in Level Grove Cemetery with military honors to be provided by the United States Army, Grant Reeves VFW Post 7720, American Legion #84, and Rabun County DAV 15.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the funeral home
