Helen Miriam Beatson Long

Helen Miriam Beatson Long, age 85, of Sugar Hill, GA passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 27, 2017.

Mrs. Long was born August 14, 1932 in Sumter, SC – the last child of James David Beatson and Pauline Andrews Beatson. She was preceded in death by all her siblings – Clayton, Arnold, Louise, Kay and LeGrande; as well as her granddaughter, Tiffany Hulsey.  Mrs. Long has been married for 66 years to Richard C. Long.

Mrs. Long is survived by her daughter, Pamela Teresa Long Hawkins (Skip) of Smyrna, GA; and sons, Richard C. Long Jr. of El Paso, TX, and Kelly Andrews Long (Shawn) of Sugar Hill, GA. Her beloved daughter, Melanie Elaine Long Ballew (Wayne) of Sugar Hill, GA passed away in June 2016.  Mrs. Long is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren who loved their Memaw. They are Bonnie Ballew Neumeister (Michael) and son Harvey, Whit Hawkins (Rebecca) and son Hawk, Clint Hawkins, Stephen Ballew and his sons Maddox and Spencer, Lera Holden Long, Camille Long-Talamantes (Lindsay), Katie Long and Kenzie Long.  Mrs. Long was a graduate of Hapeville High School and eventually took up residence in Forest Park, GA. Mrs. Long faithfully attended Forest Park First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, two-year-old choir, and Vacation Bible School. She was very active in the Women of Georgia Power Club.

After moving to Sugar Hill, GA, Mrs. Long became an active member of the Sugar Hill United Methodist Church. She retired from the Internal Revenue Service. Her family has always her greatest source of pride and she will be greatly missed by them. A private family service will be held at a later date.
