TomAllene Rose Henley

Obituary Date: Monday, December 18, 2017

TomAllene Rose Henley, age 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 18, 2017 at the Benton House in Sugar Hill, Ga. She was born September 21, 1922 in Eupora, MS to Walter Tom and Johnnie Allen Rose. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother and only sibling, Walter Rex Rose.

Tommie, as she was known by all who loved her, was a graduate of Mississippi State College for Women and held a Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia and an Education Specialist Degree from Mississippi State University. She was a dedicated educator for years who loved her profession and was a source of encouragement and guidance to many who were fortunate enough to be her students. Tommie enjoyed a prolific career as a teacher and counselor at Buford High School before moving into higher education at Gainesville Junior College as a faculty member and guidance counselor until her retirement in 1988.                                                               

She was married to the late Richard Gregory Henley in 1946 and was a loving mother to her three children. Tommie is survived by her children, daughter, Patricia Rose Carmichael and her husband Elden of St. Simons Island, GA, daughter, Janet Elizabeth Hutson and her husband Herb of Savannah, GA, and son, Richard Gregory Henley, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Atlanta, GA. Her grandchildren are Katherine Renee Connolly, Lori Dee Quigley, Traci Lynn Carmichael, Jay Elden Carmichael, Michael Bradley Hutson, Benjamin Allen Henley, and Katherine Jane Henley. She is also survived by two great grandchildren, Jonathon Carmichael and Katherine Elizabeth Connolly as well as several nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Buford First United Methodist Church 285 E. Main St. in Buford, GA with Rev. Jim Buckman and Rev. DeDe Leetch officiating. The family will receive friends at 10:00 am with the services following at 11:00 am. A reception will be held after the services in the Fellowship Hall.  There will be a private burial in Mountain View Park Cemetery in Marietta, GA on December 28, 2017.
