Ida Lois Byars Simpson

Mrs. Ida Lois Byars Simpson, age 99 of 261 Valley Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Thursday, December 21, 2017 at the Oaks at Scenic View.

A daughter of the late Joseph Richard and Ada Gilbert Byars, she was born February 8, 1918 in Anderson County, South Carolina having lived most of her life in Gainesville, Georgia and the last 10 years in Toccoa. She was a retired bookkeeper working in her husband’s business. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gainesville and active in the Opti-Mrs Club in Gainesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Simpson in 1988, a daughter, Cherry Simpson and by step-mothers, Oda Canup Byars and Elise Cain Byars.

Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Gilmer of Toccoa; three grandchildren, Steven Gilmer, Becky Gilmer and Kenny Gilmer; five great-grandchildren, Adam McKinney, Andrew McKinney, Morgan McKinney, Thomas Gilmer and Grant McKinley.

Graveside services will be Friday, December 22, 2017, 2 O’clock p.m. at the Alta Vista Cemetery in Gainesville, Georgia with The Reverend David Ritcey officiating.

Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery with The Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Ida Lois Byars Simpson.
