Judith Dannice Mathews DeWitt

Obituary Date: Monday, December 18, 2017

Judith Dannice Mathews DeWitt made her final demands on December 18th, 2017 and passed away peacefully while listening to her favorite 60s music. She always did things the way she wanted and it’s believed that she made sure to kick it by 11:50pm because she wouldn’t dare pass on her granddaughter’s birthday.

The world changed forever on September 10th, 1952 when she was born to Danny and Estelle Fecuich Mathews in Akron, Ohio. She grew up with, and is survived by, her older sister Donna Mathews Palmeri of Portland, Oregon and her brother from another mother, John Toll of Nags Head, NC. Between the two of them they helped inspired her unique style and they will undoubtedly be receiving more red cardinal visits from here on out.

She married the man of her dreams (tall, dark and handsome) on June 20th, 1975. She wore a beautiful winter wedding gown in the middle of a warm Ohio summer. The lucky fella was Barry Roberts DeWitt who survives her. Together they lived the American dream: loved wildly, worked hard, raised three impossible children and made at least 10 places home in both Ohio and Georgia.

Judy could do it all. She went from professional model to stewardess, lumber connoisseur to self-employed, legendary bead store owner. All while keeping her husband alive, her kids in line and her homes impeccable. She earned the title of Princess Running Memory, so expect only guesses from the DeWitt’s moving forward.

She is also survived by her very good looking, charming and witty kids, who she greatly loved….to call little shits; Kristopher Daniel DeWitt and wife, Paige of Athens, GA, Craig Willard DeWitt and wife, Dawn of Jefferson, GA and Lauren Joy DeWitt of Atlanta, GA, who, to her utter dismay, never married.

By far her favorite survivors are the only things her sons got right, the grandchildren; Avery Elizabeth DeWitt - top model and future medical star, Elijah Daniel DeWitt - baller and future shot caller, and Delaney Grace DeWitt - sass master and future celebrity. She gave them some wonderful Yaya memories to cherish and she will live on through them.

Although a less than average life span, Judy did not live an average life. She broke the rules, she found the love of her life, she taught many appreciated life lessons, she traveled, she “beach weeked”, she spoke her mind, she mastered at least 50 different hobbies, she fought big and cheered hard for the people in her life. She battled her first cancer and won, gave her second cancer hell, and never, ever lost her fire. She was greatly loved, and she will be greatly missed.

The celebration of her life will be held on Friday, December 22nd at Hamilton Mill Memorial Chapel. Visitation from 6:00pm – 7:30pm and service from 7:30pm – 8:00pm.

Family is cool with receiving flowers, food or straight cash money.
