Mary Jo Bettis

Obituary Date: Monday, December 11, 2017

Mary Jo Bettis, age 84, departed this life on December 11th, 2017 following an extended illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruell Bettis and her parents, J. L. Robbs, Jr. and Martha (Mattie) Robbs. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Harold Robbs and Charles Robbs and her sister Betty Jean Whisnante. 

She is survived by her sons, Phill Bettis (Wanda), Stan Bettis (Paige), and Bryan Bettis (Melanie). She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Emily Bettis Harren (Ryan), Barry Bettis (Jackie), Spenser Bettis (Kristen), Hanna Bettis Bennett (Austin), Adam Bettis, Addison Bettis and Blake Bettis. She is also survived by her sister in law, Lunell Robbs and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bettis was assisted during her illness by many loving caretakers to whom the family expresses their great appreciation.

Mrs. Bettis retired from employment with the Forsyth County Board of Education and enjoyed world travel and cooking. Perhaps her favorite trip was a sailing trip among the Greek islands with a visit to Istanbul, Turkey and Biblical Ephesus.  Her recipes are coveted by family members and others as the embodiment of great southern cooking. She was known for her generosity and care for others, attributes for which she will be long remembered. Mrs. Bettis was a member of Longstreet Baptist Church which she faithfully attended until the onset of her illness.  

Services will be held at the Ingram Funeral Home in Cumming, Georgia at 11:00 a.m. on December 14th, 2017, with tributes offered by her grandchildren. Rev. Doug Carnes, Rev. Pete Martin and Rev. Terry Caylor will assist with the service with interment to follow at Sawnee View Gardens. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Hightower Baptist Association Food Bank or the Unseen Hand Food Ministry, both located in Cumming, Georgia.
