Inez Scott Hulsey, 90, of Gainesville, passed away on Monday, December 11th, 2017.
Inez spent her early childhood in south Georgia and moved to northern Hall County at a young age. She met and married her husband of 63 years, Earl Hulsey, and lived as a homemaker and a farmer. She also worked for periods of time at the Dairy Dip and the Biscuit Shoppe. She was a member of Straightway Baptist Church.
Inez’s one-hundred direct descendants often gathered in her home for Sunday lunches, family reunions, and holiday get-togethers. Her home was the heart of the Hulsey family. Inez enjoyed spending time with her family, fishing in any lake or pond she could find, and playing Scrabble with her daughters. She was competitive, fun-loving, and rarely complained about any hardship.
In a postmodern world, some may see Inez’s life as simple, and yet she knew her power as a mother and grandmother, and she welded these powers with a fierceness of love and an endearing passion. The concept of a stranger was foreign to her, and there were no limits to her sacrifice and giving to her family. Her home was everyone’s home, her possessions were freely given, her meals were everyone’s meals, and she served as a surrogate Granny to many. Anyone in her presence immediately felt her warmth and kindness. She prepared countless meals with skills and adoration, and her ability at the stove showed a particular alchemy - a magic that generations of descendants enjoyed and will remember for years to come. She laid her life constantly down for others, and her family will forever embrace and cherish her example.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Brown, Sharon and Joe Talley, Anne and Bill Beasley, Julie and David Couch; sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Judy Hulsey, Richard and Linda Hulsey, Tim and Donna Hulsey; sisters, Minnie Lee Carlan and Peggy Tisdale, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Hulsey; parents, Elizabeth Lucretia and Charlie Scott; son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Joan Hulsey; and sisters, Genell Allison and May Grizzle.
Visitation for Mrs. Hulsey will be Tuesday, December 12, 2017 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2017, 3:00 p.m at Dewberry Baptist Church # 1, with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. Rev. Brad Reynolds and Rev. Carl Andreason will officiate.
