Catherine Cosper Black

Obituary Date: Friday, December 8, 2017

Mrs. Catherine Cosper Black, 86, of Gainesville passed away Friday, December 8, 2017 at her residence surrounded by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. With the Reverend Earl Pirkle and Reverend Keith Phagan officiating. Interment will follow in Jackson Memorial Cemetery.   The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 10, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, December 11, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born on January 18, 1931 in Anniston, AL, she was the daughter of the late Samuel E.  Cosper and Velma Lee Cato. She was retired from Northeast Georgia Medical Center in the dietary department. Mrs. Black was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Black is preceded in death by her husband, Clyde E. Black. She is also preceded in death by her second husband, Wade Boggs and grandson, Teddy Black; son in law, Jimmy Ray Blalock; 2 brothers, Louis Olmstead, Frank Olmstead and one sister, Betty Cato Leonard.

Mrs. Black is survived by her son, Danny Black (Carol) of Lexington, NC; daughter, Janet Black Blalock of Sautee; son, Harvey Black (Kathy) of Cumming; daughters, Diane Black Cash (Royce) of Maysville, Evelyn Black Stevens of Buford, Imogene Black Collins (Chris) of Gainesville, Donna Black Parks (Jerry) of Gainesville; son, Clyde Black (Machelle) of Buford; daughter, Lisa Black Phagan (Keith) of Gainesville; 15 grandchildren, Tony (Ashley) Black, Crystal (John) Davis, Tracy (Scott) Sheridan, Melinda Ladd, Allyson (Wesley) Looney, Mark (Laura) Webb, Brandon (Brittany) Simmons, Jessica (Scott) Boyer, Kasey Canada, Molly (Derek) Watkins, Amber (Bobby) Pirkle, Timothy Griffin, Kallie Black (Fiancé, Cale Mathis), Kinsey Black; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Tommy Cato of Lexington, NC and a number of other relatives and special friend Ila Martin.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center or to Mission Ministry because Mrs. Black loved supporting missions.
